We were quite excited that we were actually able to collect seven insects in our trap even though the daily temperatures have been around 7 degrees all week! The forecast for next week has temperatures in the teens! Here’s hoping we collect lots!

The Malaise Trap Inspection.
On Thursday, April 23, 4m went down to our cleverly picked spot to inspect our Malaise trap. My inspection, as well as others, found nothing. But, other people said there were some bugs. My prediction to why not many bugs were spotted is the weather. We still have a fairly big snow mound, and the playground equipment was dewy, but our spot could have attracted flies and other mud-loving bugs. I did find that our spot as very wet.

Valley Elementary Students Search for Ideal Location
47 enthusiastic grade four students from Valley Elementary searched the school property to find a feasible location for their Malaise trap. However, with snow on the ground and a forecast for possible flurries and temperatures below freezing on Sunday, it may be a challenge to find the ideal spot!
