It is snowing and raining here. Disappointing. We are going to make plans about how to inform our school and community about the program.
Itching to Get Started
We at M.C.Knoll School are itching to get started to learn about biodiversity and the Malaise Trap Program. Here are a few things we will be doing this week…
1) Watch the classroom video found in the Course Materials section(biodiversity, DNA barcoding, Malaise trap)
2) Brainstorm and research- What insects do we already know that visit our playground? What do we know about these specimens? What can we find out?
3) Start creating questions for the Malaise Trap team to answer (then send in through email) example. Has there been a Malaise Trap set up near Yorkton, Saskatchewan in the past?
4) Following the School Malaise Trap program Twitter feeds

We are so please to be included is this amazing project! We look forward to our snow eventually melting, and being able to find the perfect location for our trap! Our students have been introduced to the project as well to the world of blogging. We are really looking forward to this experience.

Back Again!
In the fall, our school, Evergreen Elementary, Grade Five students, set up our first School Malaise trap. After 5 months, we are going to set up our second trap for the spring project. We have not decided on our spot yet, but we are VERY excited!

Today we are going on a hunt to find the perfect spot for our trap.
We are so excited and so happy to have been chosen to participate in this program.

1. What does the trap look like?
2. How do the creatures survive once they are trapped?
3. How long do we get to use the trap at our school?
4. How do the bugs get into the trap?

We are super excited to be participating in the Malaise Trap Program this year. We are even more excited that the snow is melting already! Hopefully our outdoor classroom will be snowfree and dry soon. It is the perfect location for our trap (photo from the fall…right now it is filled with snow)

Hello Everyone!
We are very excited to take part in the Malaise Trap Program. We have a great deal of snow here on Prince Edward Island with approximately 20-25 cm more coming on Sunday! We have an idea where our perfect location is but we are waiting for some of the snow to melt before we post a picture!
